I’m often asked, “Hey, do you have any advice?”

As a trainer, I’ve got lots of advice. But today I want to pass along to you the best advice that I ever got from the most incredible gentleman. His name is Irasael Chaniago, and I’ll talk about him in another video, but he was a very financially wealthy and independent man who had joined Merpati Putih Martial Arts in Indonesia. After he really found out what it was all about, he formed the VibraVision® foundation, Yayasan Saring Hadipoernomo Foundation in Indonesia, and set up all of the government grants and all the different things that were happening for Vibravision® training in Indonesia. He just was an absolutely amazing, stellar individual. He was like 65 when I first met him, but still acted like he was in his thirties. He looked so young. He was incredible in every way, just his presence was mind-boggling.

We were accepted to be the first outsiders to train at Merpati Putih Martial Arts. Well, we were kind of accepted/ordered… “Hey, you’re going to be the first outsiders”, which was never the real plan. We were actually just supposed to help them help blind people, but as it worked out, serendipity and all the rest of it, we were told that we were going to be the first. Mas Nate asked Mas Irasael “Hey, do you have any advice for us?
He just kind of sat back in his chair and grabbed his teacup and smiled and looked at us and said, “Enjoy it. Enjoy even the suffering, even the hardship, even the pain. Cause you only get to do this once. There’s only one time.”
That was such powerful advice for me in my life because as we go through day after day, we can get caught in the doldrums and the rat race, and take so many things for granted. But I always remember that there are no ordinary moments. Every moment is a miracle.

Enjoy. That is the purpose of life.

Even through our learning process, it’s hard, and it’s challenging, and it hurts, but life is our teacher. If we can make that switch, we go from prison to the playground. Our greatest challenges really do become our greatest successes. We can enjoy them more because we’ve walked both sides of the road. We can really understand what the middle ground is, how to stay in balance and how we make those choices. At that moment, when we make a choice, we feel our control. We feel balanced. We feel like we’re behind the wheel, not just like a leaf blowing in the wind, but rather, we’re surfing! Jump on that leaf as if it’s a surfboard and let’s take off!
So if I could give any advice, this is the number one biggest thing. Remember to always play, play, play, play, even through the hard things.

Put a smile on, that’s the Indonesian way. Their life is very difficult. They don’t have a lot of the opportunities and the things that we have and take for granted. It’s may not be walking uphill, both ways through six miles through the snow because it’s all tropical over there, but it is very, very full of challenges, and very full of hardship, but the Indonesian people are always laughing and always smiling. It’s not just about money, the wealthy accumulation of stuff,

It’s the actual being present and being aware in our life to make ourselves grow, to learn, to enjoy everything, no matter how gnarly it is, there’s still some magic in it that we can even do it.
